Baoloc Project

Bao Loc Project

Bao Loc is a small town on the road to Da Lat, Vietnam. Because of its climate and location, industrial plants such as tea and coffee are commonly grown in Bao Loc. With great potentials the poor residents of Bao Loc especially the unfortunate children really need a hand to prosper.

The School for the Deaf, Bao Loc

In years families with deaf children in Bao Loc could only dream of sending these kids to school. They never thought that their children would be able to learn anything. However, with the love and encouragement from Father Phero and a group of Nuns, the School for the Deaf has been started and is growing in Bao Loc town. The school began with a total of 17 deaf students and two classrooms in the year of 2000. Currently, the school has 49 students with the classes ranging from preschool to fifth grade. Using special teaching methods the nuns teach these children to read, write, and speak. The school also provides career guidance in which students are taught to sew and other practical skills. The nuns’ future plan is for deaf students to be able to learn and work in some needed areas in Bao Loc such as husbandry, farming, motorcycle repair, cosmetology etc.Fees:

Tuition + lunch: 4USD/child/month
Room and Board: additional 4USD/child/month

Being a private school, all the tuition, room and board must be paid by family. The majority of the families in Bao Loc cannot afford these school expenses. Their monthly income is 5-12 USD for a family of 4-10 people. Therefore, they depend on donations to give their children an opportunity to go to school.

Youth from the diocese of Da Lat organize language and mathematics courses in the village of Bao Loc and impress upon the community the importance of study. The erection of a library in planning. JB. VU

Bao Loc (AsiaNews) – A group of young volunteers from the dioces of Da Lat, have organized language and math courses in the village of Bao Loc, about 100 kilometers from Dalat City, in the south of the country and are additionally seeking to build a library there.

One of them , Nguyen, tells AsiaNews: “We met with the villane people and we studied their needs. They are very poor and can’t afford to send their children to school. So we organised a small class session inviting the people and the local authorities to come and take part. The village people need education; the presence of the local government representatives is also important”.

Casim, a young volunteer of the H’Mong ethnic minority, presented a project for community development which was realised following a period of study at the diocese of Ho Chi Minh City. “We have gathered 8 young people of the commune to help for 80 children go to compassionate classes last week. Dividing 20 children in a group for learning our language, Vietnamese language and mathematic. Beside organizing social activities for young people groups, parents and local authority. Step by step raising awareness for people about their duties to their children”.

Bien, a student who helped Casim to organise the study session says: “Through cultural activities people have understood with one another, and their duties for new generation of the commune. If we give them money they will be out of money, therefore we discussed with young people to establish a bookcase, borrowing class rooms for teaching and studying of the children. After that the children can read and writing and look for a job, or work at agricultural fields of the community for earning their living”.

Than, who heads the Catholic group tells Asianews: "At the beginning we face with many difficulties in working at here. But people’ participation and local authority’s support have and solved troubles and improved their living by themselves. With 500 families and 90% are Catholics, we are living and working with people at here. Though the government still has doubts and discrimination with us, but we are working with whole our heart and belief. God Bless us in the mission always”.
